Abstract

In this visual essay, we present “Historias de Amparo”, an artistic-literary work in progress that explores the word “amparo” as both a noun and a proper name. With a participatory dimension, the project seeks to create a poetic and collective cartography of the notion of “to shelter/protect” through stories collected in face-to-face meetings and online networks. “Who or what is amparo for you?” and “Do you know the origin of your name?” (for people named Amparo) are the questions that invite reflection on this word. “Amparo” can refer to care and resilience, but it can also be linked to gender issues, as it is used as a feminine name that symbolically carries the characteristics of this noun. The project will result in an artist’s book and remains open to participation via email at historiasdeamparo@gmail.com.
